St. Lawrence String Quartet

Spontaneous applause erupted at the St. Lawrence Quartet’s final concert of 2008-09 when Lively Arts announced that an all-Haydn program would launch this season’s Sundays with the St. Lawrence series. The response is completely understandable: the SLSQ's masterful performances of Haydn quartets reveal their deep musical affinity with the composer’s inimitable structural and creative detail. In his lifetime, Haydn created a significant body of string quartets—in fact, he is often credited with establishing the form as a viable and compelling genre. For a special bonus, arrive early for a discussion with Stanford composer Jonathan Berger, who will explore Haydn’s influence upon the Beatles.
