Campbell Recital Hall
An Evening with Dick Hyman
Dick Hyman, piano
With an extraordinary command of more than a century of jazz styles
and a true master's touch, Dick Hyman brings the entire history of
jazz piano to life with every performance. Over the course of an
illustrious career, Hyman has played with Charlie Parker and Dizzy
Gillespie, composed for the American Ballet Theater, written more
than a dozen film scores (including a long-running collaboration
with director Woody Allen), pioneered the use of the Moog synthesizer
in jazz, and recorded more than 100 albums under his own name - not
to mention his many recordings under such colorful pseudonyms as "Knuckles
O'Toole" and "Slugger Ryan." In this special pre-season
performance, Hyman will lead a musical tour through his favorite
jazz piano styles, sharing his insights into the how the instrument's
great masters contributed to the jazz tradition.
